Simulation with text entry

Jul 01, 2015

Hi,

I am trying to realize a simulation of type evaluation. I want the user to type the set of information in a form. If the information are correct, the user can move to the next step, otherwise a try again layer is displayed.

The problem is that the system considers the fields as click zones, so the user needs only to click on the field and the data is automatically generated. Is there a solution or a setting to allow the user typing the data? I thought about replacing the click zones by text zones, but this doesn't resolve the problem...

Thank you

Hi Imen,

How are you inserting it? If it's view mode, it'll only be a click option and then auto populate the text for you. If you're using it in Test mode, you should have the option to enter the text - although I do know that in Chrome this is finicky so you'll want to record in Internet Explorer, the reason being that Chrome is notoriously bad about communicating data to the Windows Accessibility API for screen recordings.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you so much for your reply.

I am inserting it in a test mode. Indeed, at the begining, I recorded screens on Chrome. Now, with IE it is OK and the user can type the data :).

I have two other questions please :

1/ I am creating a test mode simulation. I want the user to complete a form. What is hapening now is that the system needs to validate every data entered in a field before moving to the next field. For that, the user is obliged to click "enter" on the keyborad or "validate" button to move to the next field. Is there a solution to validate all the data only at the end of the form, after the user has fill all the fields ?

2/ In a view mode simulation, is it possible to integrate a Pause/Play button ? I found only validate , previous and next..

Best regards,

Hi Imen,

Glad that IE worked successfully! Chrome is tricky with screen recordings.

The text entry references are typing set once the "control loses focus" that is typically done by the user pressing enter or clicking outside the text entry field. So if they're able to tab between them or click between them, that should set each text entry as the user entered it. Depending on your set up, that may work to have the items submitted at the end of the slide?

Could you share more about what you're looking to play/pause? Without seeing it, I'd be guessing - but what about a button to "pause" that would show a layer and the layer properties are set to pause the base layer timeline? You'd need a button on the layer to play it again which would  essentially just hide the layer again.

Hi Ashley,

I hope you are doing well,

I have a question please. I created a test mode simulation with a result slide at the end. in the simulation, the user needs to click on right zones and type right data in some fields. When the user type a wrong data, a message that contains the right response appease. Then the user need to retype the right data, otherwise he can't move on.

I want that errors commited by the user are calculated, to remove them from the result.

What I get now, is that the score is always 100% even if I make errors ...! Is there any setting up to fix this ?

Could you help me please.

Thank you,

Imen

Hello,

Please I have a question about screenshots realised by Storyline 2. When I try to record screenshots on a software open on my full screen, the capture zone by defaut of stroline2  ( a small frame of about 180***) do not allow to take all the screen, so I have to adapt my software screen to the frame, which is not good, this hides some important information on my screen. If I enlaged the capture zone to adapt it to my full screen software, then I have bad quality screenshots (so small fields and titles...). Is there a setting up that allow me taking good quality screenshots on a full screen opened software?

Thank you

Thank you,

I'm capturing screens in order to prepare simulation of web application behavior.

As I said, when I reseize storyline capture zone to hold all my full screenapplication, then I have screenshots with bad quality. Is there any recommandations about resizing windows screen resolution...or anyother thing ?

Many thanks

Hi Imen,

There isn't a way to change the overall resolution after you've conducted the screen recording - and if you're recording at full screen and then inserting on a Storyline slide it will scale it to fit. The maximum size for images in Storyline is 2048 pixels x 2048 pixels. You may want to also review the information here about image size.
