SL1 presentations no longer work reliably from flash drives?

Nov 22, 2016

I am using SL1 to prepare client employee benefits presentations, which our account managers then present off of the flash drive for client onsite meetings. In the past these have launched and played reliably in all browsers, and it's a quick and convenient way to avoid having to depend on a client's sometimes unreliable internet connections to get to our Dropbox site, where we normally post all of these videos.

Now, suddenly when launching from the flash drive, the SL1 presentation will either not launch in Firefox, or else it launches with no audio. In Chrome, it will launch on my machine perfectly but not on my CEO's machine when he is in the field. (He's not very happy with me despite my protestations that it did work on my machine.)

What's going on?  . . . Dave

Hi Dave!  In what format have you published those Storyline 1 presentations?  If you want to deploy those from a flash drive, publish them for CD and use the Launch_Story.exe file to start your course.  Be sure to initially publish to your local C: drive before moving the output to your flash drive.

It's possible that if you've published the course using the web format and then trying to view the course from a flash drive that you're running into some browser security settings preventing the course from playing back accurately.  As browser versions and Flash Player settings update automatically, that could explain the sudden change in functionality.

Always upload your content to the environment for which it was published (for example, onto a web server) to launch it properly!  Here's some information on the supported browsers for different published output in our system requirements article.
