Hi! I've been working on my project all day and then suddenly, this shows up in the slide area:
If i click to another slide, it will go away. But as soon as I click on something back in the slide, it appears again. I can type and delete things behind it though.
I tried restarting the program and my file, but it keeps happening. What is causing this and how do I get rid of it??
Emily, thanks for quick response! I am using Storyline 2. I clicked the "Check for updates" button and it said there are no updates available. ButI just restarted my computer and the problem seemed to have disappeared for now. I will submit a support case if i see it again today.
A colleague and I both downloaded the SL2 this morning and within a matter of hours of installingboth of us have seen the red X of death. I was able to resurrect my file by quitting and restarting SL2but my colleague is still out of action. We were both working in text fields doing only simple text editing when the red Xs appeared. Wondering if there are any suggestions about what is going wrong and how to fix it.
I have seen this issue usually on my Storyline 1. It shows when Storyline, due to a bug, takes all the system memory and it makes my system unable to either save the project or keep working. It's sad than same problem persists on Storyline 2.
My solution is reboot every 30 minutes so Storyline don't have time to take all system memory
It is easily repeatable if you create a numbered list text box, then change the font of the text box and try to insert a new list item you'll get the red X. Another thing I noticed but forgot to add to the support case is that the font used in the numbering itself was sometimes defaulting to Open San when the text font was something else. Clearly something going on here.
2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
This thread is a bit dated. Were you sharing the solution that worked for you? Just wanted to pop in and check that you were not having difficulty with something.
Hi, Regina. I'm sorry you're seeing this error! Cleo sent you some suggestions in your case:
making sure your files are saved and opened locally from the C: drive
running this repair of Storyline 360
Please reply back to him, and let him know how you make out! He'll be able to troubleshoot further. And we're happy to hear what works in this discussion, as well!
I am using Storyline 360 and have the same issues with the red X. I have updated to the latest version, tried importing to a new project, changed project settings, and it still happens. This was not an issue until I recently had to update the application. This makes the product useless to work on anything. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks for walking us through! You took the right steps, and I have one more idea to try:
Save the project as a new file using Save As
If the X appears in the new file, we are still ready to help! Since you have an Articulate 360 Teams account, you have access to priority support and live chat. Feel free to begin a conversation with our Support team below:

Hello Christine, and welcome to Heroes!
I wanted to confirm that you are using the latest update of Storyline, Update 6.
We have seen the issue before. You can try importing you file into a new Storyline fileto see if this helps.
If you continue to see this, you may want to submit a support case.

Thanks for clarifying that you are using Storyline 2, as there are no updates to that yet.
Please make sure that you are working locally on your machine as described inthis article.

I will keep an eye on the support case as well.
1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer:
%appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Hello, I'm using articulate Storyline 360. I'm showing this error as well when it comes to text boxes, or altering text in a shape.
I tried rebooting, and copying the project file into a new storyline file.
