There isn't an option to adjust the navigation mode while a learner is inside a course or after they've completed a section of the course. You could look at restricting progress on a slide by slide basis if that would work better for you! Here's an article on how to temporarily hide/disable the navigation buttons.

But it's ugly to remove the sidebar and put it back... I really want to change from Free mode to Restricted Mode
