Has anyone had any experience using Arabic text in closed captions in SL3? I've tried importing a translated vtt file (created outside of SL) to a video, as well as adding the Arabic text directly into the caption editor with the same results:
The SL3 output (flash and html5) doesn't render the full contents of the captions. It only display about a quarter of the content.
Interstingly the Arabic text appears to be showing correctly (as far as i can see, not being able to read Arabic...) in the caption editor.
I haven't heard other reports of this behavior, but I'm glad you brought it to our attention! Is the course hosted on a learning management system or a web server?
Would you mind sharing the .VTT and .STORY files so we can do some further testing on it? You can attach it to this discussion in a new reply or share it privately via this link.
It's ok, i got to the bottom of it. it was a font rendering issue with the caption font in the player. Arial was used for captions, which was causing them to not render out properly (i'm assuming here that Arial only has partial support and was only rendering out the characters it supported - don't know for sure). when i changed the caption font to open sans it rendered out correctly and in full (it matched the contents of the vtt file).
