Slide duration resets when file is saved

Dec 02, 2015

I had a very strange problem and it's the first time I've seen it in Storyline.

I prepared a 19 slide open enrollment video for one of our clients, saved and published, then uploaded the folder to our Dropbox site, where I then did final review at the online link, noting four of the slides which needed minor corrections in onscreen content. Two slides had links that needed to be inserted, one had a text typo, and one need minor audio adjustment, adding some pauses to lengthen the onscreen time to correspond to a 35 second embedded video clip.

I then saved the file, re-published, and uploaded the replacement folder to Dropbox after deleting the old folder and giving Dropbox a few minutes to update. I waited again for Dropbox to update, then went and viewed the online video again checking only the modified slides to make sure the revisions worked.

When our team leader went to review the presentation, she said there were long pauses after some of the slide's narrations finished and before the slide would advance. I went and looked at my original file again and the four slides I had edited were fine, but the timeline on every other slide in the presentation except the ones I edited had been reset to 70 seconds.

These were slides I didn't even touch. Has anyone heard of this before? Is there something I might have done that would have caused this? First time I've ever seen this and I am totally mystified.

Hi, Dave -- Thanks for reaching out and that is an interesting issue you've described for sure! Just to cover the basics, can you please confirm that you are following these guidelines for Publishing and Sharing SL2 Content? You may also want to try importing the file into a new file, and running through the steps listed in this article on Unexpected or Erratic Behavior

Thanks so much for your reply, Christie. I am currently using SL1, but I looked at these links and don't see anything there that rings a bell. When I went back and fixed the file--again--to re-adjust the timelines on the individual slides, that worked and the presentation is now online successfully in Dropbox, where we use a standard set up of posting the final presentation folder within the public folder.

I have now done 50 of these presentations in the past 6 months and this is the first instance of this problem. I don't remember doing anything different in this case from my usual procedure.

Is there even any way within Storyline's controls to do a whole presentation timeline reset that I could have done accidentally?

Hi, Dave -- Thanks for your response, and as far as a way to reset controls for your entire presentation, there is not a way to do that of which I am aware. In the interests of getting you sorted out as soon as possible, you may want to reach out to our Support Engineers and submit your file for their review. Or, if this is not urgent, you are welcome to share your file here and I will gladly take a look first thing tomorrow morning. :)

This is not urgent, as I was able to fix the problem. I have submitted the case and associated file to your support team as you suggested. As for re-installation of the software, I'm getting a new machine in the next few weeks, so I think that will take care of that option, as we will have to install on the new machine.
