Hi, I've had this issue and was able to fix it by closing out of storyline, restarting my computer and then starting storyline again. I didn't need to uninstall it and reinstall it (thankfully!). I'd give this a go first and if it does't work then follow Alyssa's advice.
Thanks, Noel for that tip. The red X can be a sign of file corruption brewing within your course, so I'd also check these reminders for best practices to prevent that corruption. And a repair of Storyline will always get you back to working with the latest and greatest.

A simple repair on Storyline 360 should straighten everything out. Give that a try, and let me know how it goes!
