Slide Layers appear with black background

I have a project that was originally authored under update 4, then update 5, now in update 6. I just found out that creating layers on top of the base layer creates a black 'background' to the layer, so you can't see the base layers. I've double checked my slide settings, they're the stock and standard. Hide other slide layers (check), that's all.
Any thoughts on an update breaking the background of layers? (Although, there's a good possibility that this is something small that has slipped my attention.)

Hy Dylan,
I haven't experienced that myself...odd. Have you checked the Feedback Master, which controls the layers, to see if by any chance it got switched to black?
I have! I tried a few of the generic styles, and my own custom, they all display the background as black. I'd rather not hack together a solution to get this project out the door. This is just a basic mouse over glossary.
Thanks Rebecca! That nudged me to look closer at the layouts. 'Satin' has a black background, but switch to 'Washed' and it was transparent again. Not sure how any of this got swapped, but glad to have it make sense again.
Cool! I personally believe Storyline sometimes has a complete mind of its own. But that's just a secret between us, K?
Does the base layer appear black when editing as well? In other words, when you click on a layer does the background turn black?
I'm having an issue where my entire slide view has turned black and I'm getting constant crashes, plus, when I click on a text box I get that grey background like the one in your screenshot.
Hi Gregg,
It looks like I also replied to your other thread over here.
