Slide Numbering ... Again

Search this forum for "Slide Number" and you get multiple hits spanning several years. Sad that Articulate ignores this problem.
The best solution I've seen so far is Steve's "Slide Numbering" solution which involves placing triggers on every slide. A lot of manual work and doesn't work well if content must be re-arranged.
For the effort it would take why doesn't Articulate just provide a numeric Storyline variable for the current Scene and another for the current slide within the Scene. So simple.
Is it possible to retrieve these values with JavaScript and assign them to a user-created variable?

i agree that its disappointing that there is not a dynamic way to display slide/scene number on a slide similiar to Captivate. When I put the project up for my SMEs and stakeholders they are constantly asking for the slide number to be visable on the slide. Since these projects are still in development and slides move around, they numbers should be dynamic.
Hi Sam,
It's not being ignored, but regularly shared with our product development team. I can't answer why or if it will be included in future versions/updates but I know that a lot of users here in the forums mention utilizing the workarounds such as you have indicated. Please continue to share your thoughts here with our team and send along to directly using the feature request form here.
Hi Ashley,
This has been sent to the feature request form many times.
In the push to design a high-level solution, some low-level built-in variables for Scene and Slide would solve the problem. How hard could that be?

Hi Sam,
I'm not a programmer or developer - so I wouldn't know where to begin in answering "how hard it is" - but I know it's been a common topic, and in addition to the feature requests, we share thread such as this one with our team, so please know the message is being communicated.
Thanks for reaching out here and sharing your thoughts.
I've never used Captivate so I'm not accustomed to having slide numbers display on each slide.
When I am having reviewers give me feedback, I change the menu options on the player before I publish to check the box for "Number entries in the menu automatically". Then I ask them to refer to that as the slide number to reference with their feedback. As long as you have the menu visible on your player this works good.
Thanks Melanie for sharing that suggestion.
