Slider control moving synchronously with a playing video

Jun 01, 2016

Hello, I wonder if there is an easy way to use a slider control that is moving synchronously with a playing video. The slider control should also be used to wind and rewind the video. Is that possible? If yes, how do you do this?

Leo, sorry, I don't think this is something you can do natively in Storyline.

This is because Storyline doesn't know how long the video runs for. It only knows when it finishes - so the best you can do is trigger something then (using a When Media completes... trigger).

You can control the slider easily enough. All that you need to do is change the value of the variable it uses.

So if you have a slider that is using the variable Slider1, then you set up a trigger to change that variable from one value to another and you should see that reflected on the slider when the project runs.

If you really need to make this happen, you could do it by creating a custom webpage that has your video along with some JavaScript that measures the length of time the video has played for. Then you could insert this as a web object in Storyline and have the JavaScript update a variable in Storyline so that Storyline knew when to move the slider.
