I've noticed that the thumb of a slider, as a picture, is compressed differently than any other image, regardless of the compression settings for the output. If I convert any image to a dial, it keeps the same compression as the original.
I usually set the dimensions of the track (bounding box) to match the image dimensions, then scale the thumb so it 'hits' the bounding box and then fill the thumb with an image. Like I said, I don't know if that would fix your issue but it may be worth a try.

I'm not sure if that's causing your issue, but I have noticed blurriness if the thumb's dimensions do not match the image dimensions.
Aha, so if I make it 1:1 (I guess that's standard thumb) it might be better? Or do you mean the bounding box of the slider?
Thanks for the answer I will investigate further.
