Slides broken after saving

Apr 19, 2013

I've been working with Storyline for a few weeks now and think it's a great piece of software. But I have a big problem with the scenes I've made so far.

It seems that some of the slides in a scene stop working properly or get corrupted seemingly at random, so that the next time I open the project and try to preview the scene I have to redo one or two slides to get the scene to work properly again. This has happened 3-4 times and I simply can't spend that much time redoing or fixing slides, that should work.

There is usually one or two objects in a slide that seem to cause the glitch and to fix the slide I usually have to delete said object and recreate it before the slide works again. There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to which object causes the glitch and it doesn't need to have anything to do with the object that fails to work when reviewing the slide or scene.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Hi Morten,

You'll want to be sure you're following some basic rules to prevent strange behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Also, If your Storyline software is not working properly, a simple repair may fix the problem.

Let us know if that helps...

Hi Peter,

Thanks for you help. It did help following the basic rules. I still have problems once in a while but not nearly as much as earlier. I have to save the story files in my Dropbox some times as I'm working on three different computers, but since I've stopped working on the network drive the problems have almost disappeared.
