Slow Previewing in Storyline 2, decreases overall pace of authoring! Anyone with similar experience and solution to it ?? Any bypass to Previewing the project ??

Apr 14, 2015

Whenever I preview my entire project in Storyline 2(=SL2)  it takes thrice as much time as I took in SL1 (= Storyline1).For a 3.56 MB file having 135 seconds of audio(=2.1 MB) spread over 4 slides it took me 32 seconds whereas the exact replica takes 12 seconds in SL1.  Previewing is inevitable to quality production, but I work for a mass authoring company where a difference of 10 seconds scales up to 50 to 70 times each day.

Hi Abhishek,

Storyline 2 and Storyline 1 handle media a bit differently, with Storyline 2 having some more robust options, but that's long for 4 slides. Could you share the sample here so I could look at how it's also working on my end? The SL1 file would be ideal.

Also, just as a reminder you'll want to confirm you're working with local project files and that you have at least the minimum system requirements here.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your brisk response.

As you reminded me, I have re-confirmed and found that I am using files which are on my system's hard drive and also my system meets the exact requirements for functioning of SL2. Due to privacy policy of my organisation I cant send any product outside the production team, I suggest you may do an investigative study on 'time consumed in generating a preview in SL1 and SL2' files from your repository or testing facility with specifications similar to mine (i.e. Overall file size 3.56 MB having 135 seconds of audio(=2.1 MB) spread over 4 to 5 slides.)

Looking forward for an antidote to this time lag in generating preview which was little unexpected in SL2.

Thanks

Hi Abhishek,

Thanks for sharing this here, and I was also just responding to another similar thread where Robert makes some good points.

In regards to the requirements, those are the minimum system requirements, so if possible you'll want to  have a bit more than that if you'll be creating a lot of large files. It doesn't sound like your file is currently that large though - although based on some of the overall enhancements to SL2, the preview will be a bit longer. I do see that our team is looking into overall performance enhancements, but I don't have a time frame to offer in regards to w hen those enhancements will be included.
