Slow Storyline Project with video

Jan 15, 2013

Hi guys,

I just made an Articulate Storyline tutorial that uses a lot of video content (clips from commercials at least 14 times thoroughout). It plays just fine in the Articulate Storyline program, but when published, freezes on the second slide (which does not contain video) and won't let me continue on, or even click the next button to skip ahead. Any suggestions? I have made it so that the videos don't play immediately in the beginning of the slide, but only when the user clicks a button. Thanks! -Shelly

Hi Shelly,

Thanks very much for getting back to me. Alright, so you're viewing the published content locally. This may be due to a restriction then. You may want to try uploading the content to a web server or LMS (if you have access to one) and see if the content will load. If you don't have access to either of these, you're welcome to share the .story file with me and I can test it and share the link for you. Or, you can try to publish to CD and launch the .EXE in the published output to test the content.

Here's some additional information that may help:

If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the following article for details:

not sure if i am sending this message for a reply....

have used artculate and published video content loads well enough (few second delay)

but when using storyline, video hangs to load for a while ???10-15sec before plays

once has loaded seems to play fine as go back from other slides.....so seems like something with a streaming setting....or ability to load all content before storyline starts

please advise

yes

thanks for the link...looked at it before when i posed the question previously...

it seems like storyline registers future content to be shown in  a "buffer"...so can be ready to play....

but, the content i have is completely free navigation, so there is not really a "next" slide

i think it is still too slow to load w video (separate slides, not video on multiple layers) , can you suggest a fix....a ghost slide perhaps?

or perhaps is there a way to inform viewer "content loading, please wait" as the spinning circle can be subtle to find

How Content Is Preloaded in Articulate Storyline
To make playback as smooth as possible, your published Articulate Storyline courses will preload content in the following order:

Assets are loaded for the first slide (or the current slide when resuming), so the course can begin playing right away.
Assets are then loaded for the next three slides to prevent playback delays.
Assets are then loaded for the remainder of the course.

it seems part of the issue was bandwidth on our server, which has been
increased
i am still trying to confirm if there is consistency in this hiccup....
in the mean time may i ask a different question (posted on forum yesterday)

i have a storyline 1 file (master) which contains a slide layer which plays
a web object (2nd storyline file, slave) within the slide .

works very nicely on pc , mac

but when i play on an ipad, the master file plays well, but when the slave
object is launched, the program asks to download storyline player for ipad.
and i cant get past this spot

seems like i am doing something wrong, or ipad does not support playing
embedded storyline files

please advise

well i have not yet really resolved my confusion
as i understand it

storyline loads files in "buffer" so while slide one is playing, it is
loading slides 2,3,,4

ok...
but as i have free navigation in my projects there is not really a "next
2,3,4,"
so my lightbox slides which house video, just seem to take way tooo long
before the user can view
i dont really have the articulate storyline ftp site you sent earlier,,
so i uploaded the story file to my one drive

the file is about 1/2 gig so will take a while to upload

stl is a very, very nice program....
thanks in advance for your help
