Snapping screens to capture window

Jul 14, 2016

I know SL can record the screen in 4:3 or 6:9 mode or capture the whole screen, but when it goes into SL, it always crops to the 4:3 mode. Is there a way to

1. Set the screen capture size and snap a window to it (like a browser window) so there is no guess work and

2. ensure that the entirety of what you capture fits into to the course window after insertion?

Hi Elizabeth

i haven't tested this in articulate, but my workflow for similar situations is to:

- (if need to have browser bigger than standard course dimensions) scale down my browser size to smallest possible whilst still showing all onscreen elements properly.

- open a new course with custom dimensions to accommodate the size of browser trying to record

- take screenshots

- resize course, down, as described here ensuring I use the 'scale to fit' option.

hopefully this way the resize is not too great as to impact readability.  After this can just copy and paste images into standard story course.

Not sure if this will work for your screenshots, but this works for me most times without having to amend screenshots in a photo editor.

Hi Elizabeth!

Is your story size set to 4:3? This may be why you are seeing this behavior.

When you create a new Articulate Storyline project, the slide size defaults to 720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high, but you can change it to any size you'd like. Here's how.

The record screen defaults to your story size when you open it up.

Yeah, I can select the story size and that automatically thinks that my window I’m recording is that size. There is no ‘snapping’ ability like in Captivate, so I’m having to line up the browser the best I can within the capture window and that’s just a sloppy way to do it. I was hoping there was a way to select the browser window and have Storyline auto-resize to capture that whole piece before I record the demo.

Thanks for your response.
