SoS: Error when publishing or editing audio in Storyline

Jun 04, 2013

Hi Team,

I got following error when publishing and can you help see how to solve it?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 English OS

I published the Korean course for the first time successfuly but no sound, so I publish again but I got following error repeatedly.

Preview fine within Storyline but the problem remains same if I publish with another PC (the PC has no such problem when publishing other story files).

Hi Anson,

First, can you please verify that you're working with local project files? You mentioned you're trying this on multiple machines, so I want to make sure you're not working from a network drive, or any other external source. You may also want to make sure you aren't using any special characters or spaces in the file name.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thank you for the input and always good to have your quick response.

I finally by luck fixed this issue by replacing the background music track thrughout the file, 6 sides with music in total in my case:

1.         Open the file and locate all slides with background music, see following screenshot.

2.         Right click the music track and export it. Save it as WAV.

3.         Delete the music track.

4.         Import back the exported WAV by going to “Insert” -> “Sound”.

5.         Repeat above steps until all Music tracks are replaced.

6.         Save and publish. You are done.
