Sound not working on *some* systems

Mar 14, 2013

I've been working in Storyline since August, and recently I've received a few (less than 5) complaints that a user is unable to get the sound to work. These users are typically members of our sales force, meaning that they don't work here in our office, so it's very difficult to figure out what's causing the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this type of issue? Would there be a reason why it would happen to one course and not another, even though they were published by the same person using the same settings?

I keep hoping it's just user error, but I thought I would ask to see if anyone else has had a similar situation.

Good morning Sarah,

Out of curiosity, how are you distributing the course? I'm assuming you're using either a web server or LMS. Honestly, it sounds system-specific if you're using either of those two options.

One thing they could try is to check to make sure they're running the latest version of Flash. They can find out what version they're running and see the latest version available for their system by visiting the Adobe help page below:

Flash Player Help / Find Version

Also, any chance you're publishing for HTML5? I know Internet Explorer has some issues with HTML5, this could also be the cause. Either way, if you can, try to have them open the course in a different browser (I recommend Chrome):

Google Chrome

Mozilla Firefox
