It may be temporary problem with the conversion of the sound. I had a problem with an audio that was distorted in storyline, but when I start it in some player everything was OK, so I re converted the wav file into mp3 and imported the mp3, so everything was ok. Try with converting the audio, it may help.
First, I'd want to check that you're working with local project files that adhere to the other guidelines indicated here in terms of file names and file path length.
Did you import the audio or record it within Storyline? If you've imported it - Storyline support a wide range of audio file formats (AAC, AIF, AIFF, M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA), but not all codecs and bitrates are supported. We recommend converting your audio files to 16 bit 44 KHZ PCM WAV for best results.

I can't seem to record in Storyline. I've used a headset/mic. My sound just flat lines. Any suggestions?
update to my previous comment: I can import audio that I record in Captivate. But can't record directly into Storyline.
Hi Karen,
If you're unable to record audio within Storyline, I'd suggest to begin by reviewing the troubleshooting steps here.
