Specific Storyline functionalities vs Lectora

Nov 23, 2015

Hello,

My managers are considering moving from Lectora to Storyline. I find many high-level comparisons but I'm hoping someone can answer some specific functionality questions before I endorse the change. After all, I am the only developer and I am the one whose shoulders this will fall on!

Our Lectora courses currently are set up to have four different outcomes when you get to the Mastery Challenge:
1. You didn't look at every page so you can't continue
2. You did look at each page and you are ready to continue
3. You failed the test so please take it again
4. You passed the test so you are not allowed to take it again.

--- Each of these states has a different graphic, audio, text and cc. Does Storyline have that capability?

--- The LMS will overwrite any score that has been previously set from the course. Using coding in the 4th option that stops them from taking it again handles this. How does Storyline do it?

--- I use Groups to run several actions over and over. For example if I have five buttons on the page and each one runs a different audio clip depending on which button you click I can create a group of actions that tell it to mute all audio clips - then play the one I want. Then I tell it to run the group in stead of having to add the same four actions on each button. Again, how does Storyline handle it?

Can Storyline generate a pdf completion certificate in the LMS they can download?

Thank you,

Patty

Thanks,
Patty

Hi Patty!

You can restrict or lock navigation in an Articulate Storyline course to prevent learners from skipping ahead without actually finishing the content. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Home tab on the Storyline ribbon and click Player.
  2. When the Player Properties window appears, click Menu on the ribbon.
  3. Click the gear icon at the bottom of the window for additional options.
  4. When the Menu Options window appears, choose Restricted or Locked from the Navigation Restriction drop-down.
  5. Click OK twice to accept your change.

Here's the difference between restricted and locked navigation:

  • Restricted navigation means learners can view the current slide and any slide they've previously viewed, but they can't jump ahead or skip over slides.
  • Locked navigation means learners can only view slides in the order you've designed. They can't jump ahead or skip over slides, nor can they go back to any previously viewed slides.

When you enable the Retry Quiz button on the result slide for a quiz, learners will have an unlimited number of attempts to take the quiz. But you can change this behavior by adding a variable to track the number of attempts and a couple of triggers to set a limit on the number of quiz attempts allowed. See this tutorial for details. In addition, if you only wanted this option when learners failed, you can check out this video.

Articulate Storyline doesn't support certificates of completion. However, you may be able to modify the report.html file in your published output to make it look like a certificate. Here's how.

Hi Sinchu,

Found your thread and I am used in doing similar actions with the html of the report file. However, just found out that SL360 report file when published ad html5 only cannot be changed and remains the Excel kind of out put. Articulate states that it can only be done when going for Flash but we all know were Flash is going........... And as our clients operate in remote areas without LMS and starting to block Flash we are forced to look for alternatives eg. Lectora. It makes me feel quit sad.
