Speed and selecting objects

I'm spending lots of hours on Storyline and I'm starting to get frustrated by the speed to selecting objects. Currently when I select an object its taking about 2.5 seconds before the object displays its placeholders. I then get the same delay when I try to move it. I've looked at my computer and its running at about 20% CPU & 55% RAM. I've restarted my computer & tested again. Now I've just tried a simple slide with only a few objects and no objects overlapping, and the delay is less than 500ms. That kind of a delay is practical.
My slow slide has 6 layers. The base layer that I'm working with now has 16 objects. Nothing particularly complex.
What can I do to get over the delay?
Thank you.

I've found the delay is only on the base layer, not the added layers. The added layers are the normal speed when selecting objects.
Still trying to solve this.
I've created a new slide with new objects in it. Normal speed selection. Then I copy any object over (a character) from my slow project and this new single slide slows up for selecting items. Check it out. First see a 1 sec. delay to select objects. Then delete the female character and see the selection speed up dramatically.
I have this happening on several slides with longer delays and when it comes to moving objects there is no on screen feedback that matches my movement. So its a very pain-staking process of over-correcting & then correcting again.
Is there anything I can look for?
Thanks
During this project I have had a series of error report dialogs come up, so maybe there is some corruption now in the project. Is there any way to check this or clean it, I wonder.
Workaround: Deleting the characters/poses on the slides & re-inserting them has significantly improved the selection delay. So maybe the characters had some sort of corruption.
Hey Paul and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing in your project file.
I see that you've reached out to our support team as well and Vevette is helping you out.
I did want to share that if you feel a particular course is corrupt or not behaving as expected, importing the slides into a new file is a good solution.
