Split course into 3 sections

Mar 13, 2017

Hi there! We have a course that's been launched already, problem is, it is taking a considerable amount of time for the learner to work through it. I want to keep the course so that the learner has to view each slide before they progress, but I was thinking I could split the course into 3 separate sections. So the learner can jump to the start of any of the 3 sections and work their way through. That way for example, they could go straight to the start of section 2 or 3 and work their way through, without having to go through all of section 1 (again). I'll keep the quiz at the end of section 3. The risk here of course is that that the learner can technically skip section 1 and 2 and take the quiz, however we are fairly confident that in order to pass the quiz, they will need to have reviewed the first 2 sections. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hi Rebecca

you could add a landing (hub, menu) slide that has links to each of the sections within the one module.  If you are uploading to an LMS you can set the 'resume' behaviour in the player so if the learner exits they can come back in to where they left off. See this tutorial about 'resuming'

  • Create a landing slide that has three buttons one for each section.
  • Create a trigger for each button that jumps to the relevant section.
  • Create three T/F variables sectOne, sectTwo, secThree all default to False.
  • At the end of each section on the last slide, set a trigger to 'adjust variable sectXXX to true when timeline starts on that slide.
  • On the landing slide, create a custom Completed state on each button - different colour or add an tick icon - something to distinguish it has been viewed. Add triggers to change the state of Section One button to completed when timeline starts on landing slide on condition that sectOne variable is equal to true (which will have occurred at the end of each section). Repeat trigger for other two sections.

Hope this helps or gives you an idea.
