Spontaneous layout changes

Feb 12, 2016

This happened once before and I thought I had it solved, but it's back... too bad I can't remember what I did to fix it. Here's how it goes:

I start a new project and import some slides. So far, so good. Then, I copy and paste one of the slides into a different scene, which uses the same master page but a different layout. I change the layout to the correct one and save the file.

When I open the file again, the thumbnails look good, but when I click on the slide the body copy frame doubles in width, and the header copy frame changes font (to the same as the body copy).

What do I need to do?

Hi, Donna -- So sorry to hear of the difficulties you are having here! May I ask if you have had an opportunity to check out the following troubleshooting steps listed here to see if you find improvement? You may also want to run through the repair in #2 and let us know if that does the trick.

In addition, as you mention importing, please see this article, and also this article on Using Slide Masters. Please let us know if you still need more help and we'll see what we can do!

Hi Donna,

Thanks for sharing your .story file here as well. I took a look and you've got a number of slides and scenes that I suspect are your different layouts - but at a quick glance through I wasn't sure which ones were the ones you were referring to. If you want to share some information on which slides to use or look at, then we can look at recreating it in your file as well?

Also, in addition to the information Christie shared, I'd look at confirming you're working on project files as described here too.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help.

Ashley - compare slides 3.4 and 2.4. Slide 2.4 is the correct formatting. Slide 3.4 is one that lost formatting, and then I reapplied the correct layout (Main Layout - Distr).

Working in a different file, I am having a similar problem. I created a new master page, and an entire scene switched to that new master. When I reapply the correct master page and layout, most of the slides are fine, but some of them have the same problem. I described above I don't know what is different about those slides. Let me know if you'd like me to attach that file for you to look at also; it is MUCH larger than the one I attached last time.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice now, and the problem remains.

Thank you for any help you can offer!

Donna

Hi Donna,

Thanks again for sharing your file and narrowing down which ones were causing difficulty. I looked at Slide 3.4 and saw it was set with the layout of Main layout - Distr whereas Slide 2.4 (the one you said was correct) was using Main Layout Physical. Either way, I looked at adding in new slides with those layouts, changing the layouts used by other slides, importing the slides into a new project, copying/pasting slides from one scene to another - and nothing cause it to extend the text box as shown on slide 3.4 where it's extending outside the slide stage.

I can't say what may have caused it without being able to replicate it. When you say the same master page but different layout, you mean the layouts that are the "children" of the main slide like shown here?

Can you tell me if you can replicate the steps on a brand new file or just files you've been working in with a number of masters? Did you also confirm the information here in regards to working locally?
