Spread Sheet Intergration

Feb 02, 2015

Hello there, designers.

I'm new here so please don't bite ...yet.

I'm a trainer for a large bank and, recently, my job has involved more and more e-learning. Personally, I'm ecstatic over it, as I love graphics, computers, design and the like. I'm a former media studies teacher so colour, sound - basically everything has massive importance in my head...and I insist on getting a star wars reference into everything I create. I'm especially proud of slipping a tiny Boba Fett into a document as the dot at the bottom of a question mark...

Anyway, onto my actual question. I've got a rather dry piece of work to create. It's around how to complete a new income and expenditure spreadsheet on Excel and I'm wracking my brains trying to think of a way that:

a) I can make it interesting - I'm definitely thinking an aspect of consequence in there...

b) I can allow the learner to practice using the spreadsheet - will the demo, try, test function work with Excel?

Whilst I'm here, I'll throw another question out there. Whilst screen recording, I've come across a bit of an issue insomuch as one of the systems I need to demonstrate contains a lot of customer data, which we are not allowed to show for control and governance purposes. Back when I was a PowerPoint boy, I would just mask it, but using the record screen function that doesn't work as when the screen scrolls down, the mask stays put and lo - all customer data revealed. It took me about an hour of work before I realised this. Does anyone have any uber clever workarounds for this?

I'm so pleased to see such an active and supportive community of e-learning designers here and I'm really looking forward to interacting with you all as I get more and more proficient with the software. For the record, I'm using Storyline 2 and Replay.

Thanks so much for any advice or pointers you may offer...

Paul
