Stair Step Interaction - HELP

I'm working in Storyline 360.
I am trying to create a stair stepping interaction where when you press button 1, the character moves up one step and when you press button 2, the character moves down one step. Also, the buttons have a counter variable assigned to them (counts +1 on button 1 and -1 on button 2).
I'm using motion paths and relative start points, but I can't figure out how to get it to move just one motion path with each click. I'm assuming I need to add conditions, but none of the existing conditions for "shape" work. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Susan -
Each motion path should have a unique name... by default they are numerical in the order that you created the motion paths.
In each trigger you should be able to specify which motion path to move the object on.
Each motion path does have a unique name. I see in yours you are using a variable. I guess that is where I am getting hung up.
