Starting and then stopping a video

Nov 29, 2012

Hi,

I am a Captivate user but an exploring  Articulate to see how it compares and to decide on which product will be better in creating the eLearning I would like to develop.

I have a video, say a recording of creating a new email message in Outlook.  So I want the video to not play until the user click on New message (I have managed to get this far with a trigger), I want the video to play BUT then pause again, without the user having to click on any buttons/ screen, to allow the user to click on a button and then play the rest of the slide.  So basically, user clicks, video plays, video pauses on it's own, user click, video resumes.

Can this be done??

Thanks

Hi Jodie,

I had to do something quite like it and what was the best thing for me was to insert the video as step-by-step slides instead of "Video on a single slide". It gives you a result quite like what Captivate does and allows you to add and modify triggers so the next step is shown in accordance with your requirements.

Hope you are enjoying your Storyline exploration.

Have a nice day!

HI Jodie,

Yes, it can be done. Move the playhead to the position on the timeline that you want the video to pause. Insert a shape (rectangle) at that position on the timeline. While the shape is selected, create a trigger that does the following:

Action: Pause Media

Media: your video

When: Timeline starts

Object: your slide

What this will do is as follows:

When the user clicks the first button, your button you creted will start the video. As the timeline progresses and gets to the shape you created, the shapes trigger says pause the media when its timeline starts. A second button you create has the trigger to play the media. The video will continue playing.
