static and animated slide transition

I was wondering if there was an easy way to have specific items stay static on a slide while you animated everything else out. I have a master slide built with a number of buttons across the top and background. I want everything to animate out when you hit the next or previous button except the buttons across the top and the background. I would like the seek bar to appear that the slide has played in its entirety. I've tried pausing the timeline using a cue point but the seek bar will show that there is still time left or, depending on where I place the cue point, the object will begin animating out and pause half way.
