Storing and retrieving user data without LMS
Aug 18, 2012
Hello Everyone,
I know I can write data to an external file, but would like to know if it is possible to retrieve the data for use in a later session before I spend the time attempting to do so. Perhaps there is a very simpler way that I am overlooking.
Summary: Course includes 8 modules that will be used without an LMS. Each module will return to a module selection menu that will indicate each module the user has completed. This works great now provided the user selects resume when retuning to the course or uses the same computer or device.
Goal: Retain the status of the module completed even when used on another computer or device. Ideally, I would disable the Resume button and replace with a custom login slide with resume/reset buttons informing the user about the reset and resume options.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Ron

Anyone have any advice on this?
I'm in a situation where I have people starting a very long learning module at work and wishing to complete it at home, only to discover that they had to start over.
Are there any options at all to deal with this?
I have the same question!
Hi Isabel and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
If you need to track your learners' progress and results, we recommend publishing to an LMS. You can read more about publishing and sharing your content here.
Others in the community have worked on tracking without an LMS though, so feel free to browse around and maybe one of these conversations here, here, or here will help you get started.
