story.html file won't launch (SL2)

Sep 15, 2016

I see several posts about this issue. I'm publishing for LMS.  I have previously been able to launch the story.html file on other courses. But two new courses that I just developed will not launch the story.html file, only the story_html5 course. Please help!

Hi Teresa- Thanks for taking the time to reach out here! Are you uploading your course to an LMS environment when testing it? If you view an Articulate Storyline course on your local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.  To properly test your published content and share it with others upload it to the environment for which it was published. For instance, since you published for LMS you'll want to make sure to upload it to an LMS environment such as SCORM Cloud to test it.

If you're testing it in an LMS environment and still running into trouble, would you mind sharing your .story project file here so I can take a look? You can add it as an attachment right to a comment in this thread. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. This is only a recent situation, within the past 3 weeks. I previously did not have this issue. Is this something related to Flash no longer being supported?

My main issue is that the seek bar for the video controls is different when viewing the htlm5 file. When I preview the slide within Articulate SL2, it has a box appearance. In the html5 published file, the seek bar is a line with a travelling dot.

Hi Teresa, Thanks for the additional details and attaching your published file! There is a new security feature of Flash player 23, and if you attempt to launch content locally you may see just a spinning circle or Flash player notification. Take a peek at the solutions Ashley has provided for this over here. Let me know if you have any questions!

As for the issue that you're seeing with the HTML5 file, I uploaded your attached .zip to SCORM Cloud to test it and did see what you're talking about with the seek bar. Would you mind sharing your actual .story project file here so I can investigate a little? Thanks again!

Hi again Teresa, I was able to reproduce that the seek bars look different when viewing HTML5 after publishing your file and uploading it to SCORM Cloud. I was not able to determine a cause, however. At this stage, I would recommend reaching out to our Support Engineers directly by way of this form. They'll be able to assist further in investigating this issue with you. If you let me know the case number after submitting, I'll follow along and relay any relevant info here for others who may find it helpful.
