Story launch failure

May 02, 2016

Hello Heros,

We attempted to launch our first story (following our directions to launch to the laptop first) and some of our feedback popups won't work.  They all work fine when we run the preview - any ideas out there as to what we are doing wrong?

In addition we can't get it to open when we tried to share it for review?  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Cathy

Hi, Cathy -- Thanks for reaching out and may I ask if you are testing your course in the intended environment as described here?

As the article states, "If you view an Articulate Storyline course on your local hard drive (or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive), you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published."

Hi Christie,  I am sorry for the delay - I am not following the directions that you provided.  I followed the directions to make it a scorm packet but it shows up with a zillon folders and only one has the story on it.  Perhaps if you could direct me to how to properly create a scrom packet that would be my first step?  Thank you for your assistance!

Hi, Cathy -- Thanks for your reply, and as you mentioned that you are publishing for SCORM, please see these directions for publishing to an LMS specifically.

After you publish, you will find a variety of options, and if you are utilizing an LMS and need to upload it there, you will need to choose ZIP from the options below.

Step 6: Publish

When you're finished making selections, click the Publish button. When the publishing process is complete, you'll see the Publish Successful dialog.

  • Zip: This creates a zipped file of the published output in the location you specified on the Publish window. This is the most common choice when you're using an LMS. Upload the zipped course to your LMS.

Hello again,

Thank you - I was able to get the the able "congrats" message above, however when i attempted to e mail it - it didn't send (although my "sent" box said it did).  But the bigger problem is when i saved it to Office 365 share drive, the person I shared it with was unable to open it and got the attached error message.  My IT guy told me it was because it was a ".story" file, not a ".zip" file or an html that anyone could open.  So how do i get this to publish in a manner that will allow folks with out storyline to access this course?

Many thanks,

Cathy

Hi Cathy!

If the users are seeing a .story file, that means you shared your project files and not your published output.

The link that Christie shared above walks you through the steps to publish. You would then want to zip the contents and have your LMS team upload as needed. At this point, you would share the link to the story.html file.

You mention saving on a shared drive and we would not expect it to work when not in the intended environment.

Where will your course be hosted? On an LMS or internal server (if this, then publish for web)? Please be sure the content is uploaded prior to sharing the story.html link.
