Now this is an issue I have never come across before. When I have my slides set to "automatically decide" when revisited, and the prev/next buttons turned off, they are suddenly appearing when I jump back to that slide.
My work around is to set every slide to "reset to initial state@, but obviously that isn't ideal.
Here's the logic behind "automatically decide" option. If the slide contains just simple objects and/or audio but no interactivity, Storyline resets the slide to the beginning of the slide’s timeline each time users view the slide. However, if the slide contains any interactive elements, such as buttons or any other object that includes a visited or selected state, Storyline resumes at the slide’s current state if users view the slide more than once.
Do you have a trigger set up to show the prev/next button at a certain point in the slide?
I know how the different options work, it just isn't working as expected. Everything on my slide is working properly, it's just adding the automatic prev/next buttons whenever I jump back to a previous slide.
Sorry for the late reply to this conversation, why does it work this way? It seems entirely counter-productive, especially when you're using your own prev/next buttons and have turned off the default Storyline buttons.
Having moved across to Storyline 2, I'm getting the same "functionality". Is this not something that was fixed for version 2?
These navigation buttons are necessary for learners to review quiz slides when revisiting them. You can always share you thoughts on this by submitting a feature request.
Just to clarify, even though you've added your own navigation buttons, on the quiz questions next/prev buttons aren't included the first time through by default as the user has the "submit" button. As it's currently designed, Storyline doesn't "know" that you have your own navigation buttons so includes next/prev buttons on a revisit/review so that the user isn't stuck in terms of navigating. As Emily shared the link, the best option is to share your thoughts in the form of a feature request with our product development team.

Hi Gary,
I just want to know one thing is the slide having this issue is an quiz slide or normal interaction slide?
If this issue is occurring with a quiz slide then you have to change its "Reset to initial stage".
Kartik, that's the workaround I'm already using, but it's a workaround... so not ideal.
For those interested, it is on slides with a Freeform question.
Hi Gary,
For quiz questions this is as expected as detailed here.
