Storyline 2 alt tag not being read by screen reader - resolved

Mar 29, 2016

I was trying to post a course and was testing for 508 compliance. I was having a problem that one image was being read as "untitled image." I had named the image and double checked that the alt tag was present. I also tried changing from .jpg to .png. Nothing worked. Finally, I took off the shadow effect so there were no effects active for the image and it read the image correctly using a screen reader (JAWS). It may not look as polished or "pretty," but it makes it compliant.

I hope this helps others that have experienced the problem.

Thanks Jennifer for sharing that information here and I'm certain it'll be helpful to other users. I did also want to share another tidbit in regards to the reading of the alt text associated with images. The JAWS screen reader adds graphic or button to object descriptions when it's narrating a published course. This is how JAWS is designed to operate for accessibility support.

For example, JAWS adds graphic to descriptions of pictures, screenshots, and characters, since these elements are graphics. Similarly, JAWS adds button to descriptions of buttons and objects with click triggers.
