Storyline 2 - character spacing problem

Hi all,
I'm having a problem when publishing a module (it doesn't really show in preview): in some words there seems to be extra spaces between letters. See the words "pumps" & "and" in the screenshot below:
I've tried removing text - copy/paste via notepad without success. I also tried changing character spacing to 1 which didn't work either.
This problem can also be random, ie when changing the text it may solve the problem on one specific word but add another extra space into some other word...
This is a real issue since I cannot replace / retype every single word of the whole module and then check which one has new extra spaces.
Many thanks in advance

I would also like to be subscribed as I have experienced this issue several times with multiple fonts and varying sizes since SL was released.
Hi, Melissa -- As you have replied/commented in this thread, you should now be automatically subscribed to the thread and any updates. If you would like to ensure that you are subscribed, you may also look at the top of the page while in the thread, and between "Bookmark" and "Share" you will see that "Subscribed" is highlighted blue to indicate that you are actively subscribed.
I'm also having character spacing issues...I'm using Source Sans Pro as my font.
what I've tried is:
-working with the SL2 file on my local hard drive, rather than on the server
-copy pasting text from Notepad
-writing text directly in SL2 (rather than copy-pasting from MS Word)
-tried several different fonts: Arial, Open Source, and Helvetica Neue
-changing the character spacing
-downloading storyline 2 update 7
Does anyone have a solution that works? Thanks!
Hi Ianitza,
We've reported the issues with character spacing and font kerning to our QA team for additional review, but I don't have any additional information to share at this time. We'll keep folks posted in this thread, and since you've replied you'll be subscribed and notified with any updates through the email notifications from the E-Learning Heroes community.
I am trying to user Arial 20 and its having a spacing problem, so now I am using 19.5. I am hoping this issue can be resolved soon.
Hi Helena,
I don't have any updates to share at this time, but will share additional information once it's available here in this thread.
Ok thank you.
I have serious kerning issues, and I'm using our brand font, Helvetica Neue. I tried not copying and pasting, just typing in Storyline, and it didn't fix it. Look at "Oops," "feedback," "explaining," "wrong," and "Continue." It looks so unprofessional, but I do not have time to adjust kerning on every little word. I don't have these issues with Segoe UI, which is a marvelous font, but I couldn't persuade our brand center to let us use it in Storyline.
Can we make this a priority, please? I have been back and forth with our brand center, and they are absolutely adamant that we use Arial or Helvetica Neue for our materials, but those two fonts look terrible in Storyline, which reflects very badly on me. I'm not okay with this. Please, figure out the kerning problem. You've been aware of it for a couple years now.
I agree with Sarah, this has been with development/QA for too long. Articulate Team, please address this issue. Thank you.
I have to admit this is pretty embarrassing. For all the great things that can be done with SL to make truly high quality presentations, poor kerning frequently spoils the party.
Hi all,
Thanks again for reaching out here, and I did check in with our QA team who is continuing to investigate it to see if they could give a list of font or sizes that would work better. They shared they haven't identified specific fonts/sizes yet, but we'll continue to keep you posted here with any additional information.
I think it if was a matter of finding the right font or size, that someone in the community would have found that already. Also, as others have already said, changing fonts is not an option for many of us who must follow corporate style guides.
What we need is a fix, not a workaround.
Agreed. I've also tried many different fonts, from classics to custom, without the issue being resolved. This needs a fix asap.
Leslie and Ashley, this issue is actually proving too difficult to handle with clients! Particularly with clients who are too specific about every little thing! This will force users to move away from Storyline! Since almost a year you and other the STAFF are reporting that this is still with QA team. Is this issue not on priority? A year is a big duration to solve or at least give a remedy to get over from this problem. We have to deliver a project this week and a new project is going to begin next week. I think client may request us to go with another software.
Hi Jitendra,
Thanks for your questions and comments here. We did share it with our QA team and they'e continued to investigate it, but there currently is not any additional information in regards to a fix or an update. I do see that most of the users here and in our QA testing reported the issue with smaller font sizes, so perhaps you may want to look into the overall font sizes that you're using and what other options you could utilize going forward.
We'll continue to keep folks posted in this forum thread (and in support cases for those that submitted them) but at this time I don't have additional information or an ETA to share. Once we do, we'll be sure to share. If there is anything else we can do to assist, please don't hesitate to let us know here or by reaching out to our Support engineers here.
I will add my voice to this thread. I agree this needs to be fixed ASAP. Can Articulate not put out a patch. This is easily duplicable problem.
Hi Sean,
Thanks for chiming in here as well and we continue to share with our QA team in regards to this issue. We've also been able to replicate it, but based on the changes to how text was created, edited and published in Storyline 2 vs. Storyline 1 accounts for the difference. Our team is continuing to investigate ways in which we can update that while still keeping the detailed text controls that were added as a part of Storyline 2. Once we have any additional information to share we'll be certain to post in threads such as this one.
For the moment, I am taking down the Arial font a .5 size. So 13.5 instead of the 14 point font. Its a temporary fix.
Hi,
We are having the same problem. Is it solved yet?
/Johanna
Hi Johanna!
As you can see by Ashley's post above, this is still in the hands of our QA Team. I do not have an update to provide at this time.

We have the same issue here. I thought a year later it would be solved, but no good.
A little disappointed that this is a year in QA though I don't pretend to have the answers, nor believe they are easy to find.
My problem with the character spacing is actually with the Articulate font in a feedback question. The solution for me is not as simple as changing the font size as this is determined by the length of the feedback message.
My font needs to be Articulate and so far this is only popping up in the feedback.
Thanks.
Hi Amanda,
If you're only seeing it in that one spot, I'm not sure if it would be the same issue. Are you able to share a copy of your .story file with our Support Engineers here?
