Am just about ready to go into production on a course and suddenly, in one lesson (scene), when I click NEXT, I get taken back to the opening screen of the course. This happens on various screens within that lesson - no pattern. All screens are set to go to the next screen when learner clicks NEXT, I've re-published, I've re-started the computer and then re-published. But this is still happening. I was clicking through the screens pretty quickly to get to the one I wanted to check, so I slowed down....still happens.
And I so appreciate that, Wendy. This forum is always so helpful.
It's in the test environment I always use for this client, and since I've been working on this course for three months with multiple publishes and no problems until now, I don't think that's the issue.
I'll double-check all the triggers to be sure, but since it happens randomly that doesn't seem likely either....of course, there's SOMETHING going on, so I can't assume anything, can I? ;-)
Sometimes when I click on something, I click with my mouse still moving slightly. If you do that in story view, even the smallest twitch can change the order of the slides.
Wendy, I have checked all the triggers. I found that the NEXT trigger was in the Player Triggers on some slides and in Slide Triggers on others....not sure how that happened?? Anyway, I changed them all to be Player Triggers, but that didn't solve the problem.
I've uploaded to support, so we'll see if they can find anything.
I've seen that mismatch happen if you uncheck/recheck the prev next buttons in the slide properties. So even if you have a slide NEXT trigger created that has conditions and for some reason uncheck/ check the next button SL will automatically create a player NEXT trigger. Then you have two conflicting triggers and order becomes important.
Also on all the slide properties see if there might be an issue with the option selected : 'player defaults' or 'custom for selected slide' options.
Good luck with it - hope there's not too much editing to get you back to where you need to be.
You might have assigned the wrong slide in the slide option. I mean make sure you have applied the next slide in the slide option. Please find the attachment.
Thanks, Priyanka. I've checked that but will again while checking the slide properties!
What I find interesting is that it pauses for a few seconds and then goes back to the very beginning, not a screen nearby or another scene. Also, I'm on Windows 10, and one time instead of the course going back to the beginning, I got a pleasant little message that 'we're sure you're tired of trying to load this page, so why don't you try again later?' This really make me think I've got a corrupted file. ;-(
These are just plain next/prev triggers....nothing special. I'll double-check all the slide properties.
But I'm becoming increasingly concerned that I have a corrupted file. I've uploaded the course to support (thanks for the link!) and am hoping they will find a rookie mistake somewhere. In the meantime, I know that the first step is to try to import the course into a new file. Did that and still have problems.
I thought my last version was good but after running it fast, I see the same problem, so I'd likely have to go back several generations. Think I'll try importing a piece at a time and see how close I can get to a clean file.
Thanks for helping me think this through!
(I thought I had already replied but don't see it....so apologies if this is a repeat!)
its always hard to diagnose when you have been looking at it over and over - hopefully support will see a quick fix with fresh eyes.
If you do create a new file and import your slides in try renaming it something totally different and simple - just in case there is a character or something that it doesn't like. Good luck and please keep us informed how you go.
Well, in the middle of the night it occurred to me that I'm working on a new laptop that came with Windows 10. So I copied the files back to my old laptop that is running Windows 8.
I did a fresh publish and copied it to the old computer. On the new computer, it still randomly goes back to the opening screen if I move through the screens quickly (as one is apt to do during testing), but the same publish works perfectly on the old computer....not sure if the issue is the computer or the operating system, but I have a deliverable copy and that's the primary objective!
BUT...for future projects, does anyone have any input on issues with Windows 10 or experience with projects working differently on different computers?? Am I going to have to keep the old equipment??
Thanks for reaching out here and I see that you also sent in your support case and my apologies for the delay as it looks like it got routed to the wrong queue. I've escalated it to our Support engineers so that they can take a look and they'll be in touch shortly.

Hi Carrie
can you upload the story file - easier for someone to help troubleshoot if they can see the setup
Sorry but it's for a client and I can't make it public. Wendy, are you on-staff and able to give me a link?
And BTW, we've been working on this course for 3 months and this is the first time I'm seeing this...????
No Carrie - sorry just a forum user trying to help.
But here is a link if you need to upload to Articulate support who may be able to help you.
Are you testing it in the intended environment of how it will be deployed?
I would check slide triggers, layer triggers, slide master triggers, slide properties and trigger order.
Sorry can't be more help

Thanks for reaching out. Have a great weekend!
Go to story view and check the navigational flow.

Thanks, Walt. I have had that experience, too. But all looks as it should and this happens at a different slide each time.
I've gone to a backup and it's not happening there, so I'll make my edits again and see if somehow the current file got corrupted.

its getting curiouser and curiouser :-)

One other thing to check is you don't have any triggers that are 'unassigned'
Hi Carrie,
You might have assigned the wrong slide in the slide option. I mean make sure you have applied the next slide in the slide option. Please find the attachment.
This can also be the reason, If you have applied action "Exit course" when the user clicks on the next button. Please see the attachment.

Yup, only one exit the course trigger and it's not part of a next trigger.
Me, too, Wendy!!

Will do!
