Storyline 2 Forcing a user to fill in the Learners Name

Jul 17, 2015

Hi elearning heroes,

I think I saw a reference to this, but cannot find it now.  I have a welcome slide where I ask the user to enter their name.  All works fine...but, I want to restrict them from using the next button until they have filled in the name.  I thought I could use the learner name variable to restrict the use of the next button but cannot figure out how to set up the condition.  I also would like a message to pop up if they have not filled in the name when they click the next button.  I would assume a layer would be used for the message, but could someone clarify the concept and provide me with some instruction?

Thanks so much,

Kay

Hi, Kay -- I think I understand what you are trying to accomplish, and I hope this information does the trick for you. Please let me know if this is not what you had in mind! :)

How to Temporarily Disable or Hide Navigation Buttons

Want to disable or hide the player navigation buttons until learners have finished interacting with a slide? Just add a trigger to change the state of the previous, next, or submit button. Choose from normal, disabled, and hidden states.

For example, let's say you want to disable the next button until the slide audio has finished playing. You'd add two triggers: one to disable the button when the slide starts and another to enable the button when the audio ends.
