Storyline 2 outgoing links are automatically shortened - any way to stop this?

Jan 14, 2016

Hello,

I have an outgoing link that my Storyline file should bring users to, and it's a pretty long link for SSO that has several instances of "%25" followed by a string of letters and numbers.

When I create this as a trigger in Storyline, I am able to test the trigger using the "Check URL/File" button and it works as expected.  However, after I publish the module, the link no longer works. I found that when I click on the button that has this trigger, it opens the URL with all of the "%25" replaced with "?".  This effectively breaks the URL because the SSO does not accept the replacement.  This happens regardless of whether I publish the Storyline file as HTML, LMS, or CD...  So, it seems that there is an auto-adjustment for these URLs that happens whenever I publish the file.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a setting that I can adjust to stop the auto-adjustment so that the published module uses the full URL and not the shortened one?

Thank you!

I haven't that problem, but I have a suggestion. Use a shortened version of the URL. You can get one at a site like Tiny URL (http://tinyurl.com). They'll take an e-address of any length and, as their name says, make a tiny URL you can use in its place. That might solve your problem, because the tiny URLs don't use any special characters.

Thank you so much Judy and Leslie! Judy's solution worked for me!

Leslie: I think that our Cornerstone LMS does not allow for truncated URLs, but perhaps other servers do and that is why the issue was not reported? I can share the .story file but our URLs are locked for only users that are on our internal network, so I'm not sure how useful it will be!

Thanks!
