Same problem here. I am working locally...this is the first time I've tried to publish a storyboard in Storyline 2 (still trying it out on the trial version). It locks up and won't close the dialog screen when I cancel, either.
I've had this happen twice. The first time, I had a custom size HUGE page, plus, when publishing in Word, I choose the Large Picture of Slide option. I think I just choked the system. I corrected these two things, and re-published to Word with no problems.
The second time this happened, I was using an different Title master template than for the Slide master. Once I updated all slides to use the same template format, I re published to Word with no problems. What is TREMENDOUS about Storyline 2 is that a backup is auto created! You can just delete an unresponsive application in Task Manager (to shut down Storyline) and use the back up file....wow.
Just dropping in here to confirm that the master templates may have something to do with this. I was passed off a file with several different masters used (all willy-nilly, in my opinion, but that's another issue). Once I changed them to the same master it worked perfectly (and very quickly!).
The same thing happened to me when attempting to publish to Word. Churned and churned then when I hit cancel nothing happened. I had to close the program via the task manager.

Hi Mary!
I have not seen this issue reported and I am not having any trouble either.
Are you working locally? Are you having trouble with just this project or projects in general?
If it's just this project, you may want to consider a new project, but if it's SL2 in general, then perhaps a repair is needed.
Again, be sure that you're working on your local drive.
Hello Mary!
Please make sure you are working locally as described here. Also, you may want to preform a repair of Storyline to see if this clears up the issue.

Hi Leslie! Have you tried the repair option shared above?
Oh, it turns out I wasn't working locally but off my backup drive. Moved the file to desktop and it worked fine.
Thanks for the update!

Awesome, thanks for sharing. Glad you were able to get working again.

Hey Adam!
So sorry for the trouble-- I'm happy to help here.
Since this thread is a little older, let's start from scratch. I have a couple questions to help nail down the cause:
