Not sure if this is what you are asking for and if it can fit in your design; Simply add a button to play the media file on click. Be sure to trigger the audio file on timeline start for a first listen.
I was having similar trouble. Wanted to replay the timeline of the layer with a custom button, not the seekbar. Not sure if this was the same as your issue, but I found a solution that someone else worked out! Hope it helps you as much as it did for me!
