Storyline 2: Resource documents not found

Feb 14, 2017

Good morning.

I've been adding pdfs to Resources for some time now and never had any reports of a problem. One of our users just alerted me to several resources not available in several courses. I'm able to confirm this both in our LMS and with one course in Scorm Cloud.

Does anyone know what could be happening that would make the files giving a not found error? These are pdfs, not url links.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, Alyssa. I thought about the move issue but I haven't done that. The pdfs are on a network drive. I've always checked Resources once I've published and haven't run into a problem before.

So should I move the files to my C: drive, reattach, and republish and see if that works? What would you recommend?

No stupid questions here, Cheryl. :)

You'll want to link files from a local drive to locally-stored content. We explain in this tutorial that Storyline stores resources in the story_content folder of the published output. However, there is a known issue in Storyline 2 in which if you move a file that is linked in the Resource tab, the file is then not attached to the final published output. Because of that, you'll want to ensure that you do not move the files after you publish.

The issue is still in the hands of our QA team, but once we get more information about a fix, we'll post an update to this thread.

Is there by chance a public list of known issues for the different products? That would be very helpful to review.

I'm sure I'm guilty of moving files about, now that I think about it. Once I've published a job, I move my working folder into a completed folder. That implies to me that all my links must be broken. That's not a good thing, and I can't believe I've not heard any squawks for the past year plus.

I thought I'd try storing these documents in Dropbox instead. It works fine when I set the urls up in Resources, it tests fine in Storyline, and it tests fine in Scorm Cloud. My LMS is having issues of late, and these urls aren't working once published to LMS. They can't reproduce it, but my users and I can. I'm stuck! I'm waiting for them to get back to me on the next step. I may have to open a support ticket.

Thanks again.

We don't have a public list of known issues, but you can stay up to date with features and fixes here. I'm not entirely sure that all of your links are broken, but you may want to spot check a few here and there to double-check. Keep me posted on what you hear from your LMS, and let me know if you find that you have more broken links to contend with.
