Storyline 2 Resume Conditional States
Jun 29, 2017
Hello Community... I have an issue resuming states after users leave the project. This is an interactive tool to keep track of users' progress through a process. Each step in this process has a check list of items to complete (user will click check boxes when done with an outside action item). When they finish each item and they click the "exit" button, which shows a layer that "check marks" the step. This is all accomplished on one slide using layers and conditional statements on the check boxes. However, when closing and reopening the project, all progress is lost. I need to have the progress resume to the last state since this process takes months to complete.
Here are the settings I'm using... Each layer is set to "resume saved state" when revisiting. And the player properties under "Other > Resume" is set: "On restart: Always Resume."
So I'm wondering if the conditions won't resume for some reason. Or, maybe I have to add a "visited" state to my check boxes instead of "selected." Your help is much appreciated!

Hi there M! You nailed it--try using the Visited state instead of the Selected state. Here's more on how those built-in states work.
Let me know if that makes a difference!
Hi M and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Without seeing your file, your first assumption sounds correct. I would try utilizing a visited state vs a selected state. When the user is resuming the course, they haven't actively selected the state, so that may be why it's not working.
I assume the course is resuming, just not the checkboxes as you are expecting?
Would you be able to share your .story file for us to take a peek?
I don't think visited will help here, bookmarking data for resume is only saved when you jump slides. You could add in a save button that jumps you from one slide and back again. Even add a progress bar in on the other slide and then jump back.
