Storyline 2 - screen lag on published courses

Jul 13, 2017

Hi,

I am currently working on a project which was initially built using Storyline 1 several years ago. The client occasionally comes back with changes.

I experienced some issues in the switch from Storyline 1 to Storyline 2 where some of the screens tend to hang or create a time lag when the bespoke next button is selected on published courses uploaded to the web server.

This was fixed previously by rebuilding the offending slide. I have now come across the same issue on Storyline 2 revisiting the same project and rebuilding the slide doesn't seem to make a difference.

I have tried publishing for LMS (SCORM 2004) and web, both with and without HTML5 Output, but nothing seems to rid me of the time lag when the course is uploaded to the web server.

Its difficult to re-create this issue and my story file consists of confidential information, so unfortunately I can't share the build file.

I would appreciate any suggestions!!

Many thanks

Tracey

Hi Tracey,

Does this only occur in the web output, and not the LMS?  When you test on the web server what browser(s) are you using? For Storyline 2 you'll want to use one of the supported browsers here (double check that you're using an HTML5 supported browser if that's the content you're displaying).

You could also look at testing the content on another web server to isolate what the issue may be further, look at uploading to Tempshare or using Amazon S3. If you need to test the LMS content you could use SCORM Cloud, a free standard for testing.

If you're still hitting that lag, our Support team are able to view files privately and can sign an NDA if confidentially is a concern. You can reach out to them here.

Let me know if you need anything else!

Hi Ashley,

I am using a supported browser, Chrome on PC.

This occurs in web output. I have asked the client to test the course in their LMS but I am still awaiting a response.

I have tested a cut down version of this course in SCORM Cloud. Saving out with the HTML checkbox ticked works ok with no lag, but causes other issues with videos not playing/loading.

Thank you for sending the support team details, I will reach out to them to hopefully find a resolution.

Hi Tracey,

I was just checking in on your case and see that you shared the following with Wilbert in regards to your video files:

It appears that there is a setting/update on Chrome which paused the autoplay function on the videos. The fix was to remove autoplay and add a cue point which triggers the videos to start playing after the slide layer has loaded.

I'm glad to hear everything is back up and running and please let us know if you need anything else!

Hi Ashley,

The comment from myself above actually referred to an issue that went hand-in-hand with the initial screen lag problem. Videos were no longer auto-playing as expected (due to an update on Chrome), which the cue point trigger remedied.

This and running all videos through Handbrake to compress them, resulted in the screen lag disappearing and the videos playing correctly.

Thanks for following up!

Tracey
