Storyline 2 - Some things not yet rectified

Sep 20, 2014

Storyline 2 has added some really nice features which speeds up the workflow even more, well done!

But there are some obvious (to me) things that need to be added to make it even better and more user friendly.

First, the ability to select multiple layers in the timeline and move them/drag them up and down has not been added.

Yes you can Group them and do it that way, but the Grouping has its own issues, for example once you have created a group, you cannot add another item to the group, you have to un-group, select the items again plus the new item and then regroup them. This is not an efficient workflow.

As most designers are familiar with Adobe products, I regularly find myself using keyboard shortcuts, that I am used to, not working at all with Storyline. A simple one is the Ctrl + -/+ to zoom in and out. These functions need to be added in future versions I think.

The other issue I have is the SDK kit, yes, it is supplied but there are no tutorials or guides on using it correctly, I am sure tutorials could be created to provide us with the most common requested uses, like customising the players etc, but it is difficult to work through the code, if even you are an experienced programmer.

An example is the progress bar, it does not have a time indicator on it, as is often requested so that users can see the time of the slide countdown, yet, the timer for the progress bar is in the SDK kit but there are no indications on how to implement it for a custom player.

I hope these things will be looked at.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for sharing those thoughts here, and I hope that some other users will chime in with what they'd like to see as well or suggestions for how to help you work more efficiently. In the meantime, I hope that you also shared these ideas in the form of a feature request with our product development team (you may want to submit each one separately).
