Storyline 2 - Unable to advance to next slide
Mar 14, 2018
Hi All!
I'm a newbie to Storyline and I'm hoping this is an easy fix. I have a scene that includes four slides. The first content slide will not jump to the next content slide once the timeline ends. I have a trigger on the audio on the last layer of the slide that states "Set slidelock variable equal to false when media completes" . I've already tried changing it to setting the variable equal to false when time line ends, or when the time reaches 148 seconds and still no go. There's no state change on the player button, and the only other trigger is the one used to move to the next slide when the user clicks the next button if the slidelock variable is equal to false. Any help/input would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Becky
is the default value of your variable True? and you are triggering it to False?
Trigger order is very important - SL executes them in order so make sure your 'adjust variable' trigger is before the 'jump to next slide' trigger.
Another thing to check is your menu set to 'restricted'?
If those things are correct, can you share your .story file and someone can take a look for you. Just use the grey 'add attachment' button at the bottom of the post to upload your file.
Thanks Wendy! about trigger order - what if the trigger is on a layer and not the main slide? does it run that after the ones on the main slide are completed??
Hi Becky!
Trigger order is important when the triggers are on the same base layer or same slide layer. If you don't mind sharing your file here, we'd love to take a look! Sometimes an extra pair of eyes is helpful when you're trying to nail down an issue. 😊
Thanks Alyssa!
I've double checked the things Wendy gave me and I've deleted and recreated a few of my triggers and I've had success with it previewing correctly up to two times, but then it 'breaks' again and only walks through the first slide and won't go to the second. I've got proprietary information in my module so I'll see what I can do about sharing it.
No worries, Becky. Even if you can create a copy of your file and remove all of the proprietary information from the copy, that would be helpful too.
Strange. I copied the scene out to start removing items, and it works fine in a new file. copied it back in and overwrote my slides, back to no go... this day just gets weirder and weirder :)
Hmm, that's definitely strange, Becky! If you would rather send the whole file privately, you can do that right here.
yes, definitely a head scratcher. I'm using that combination of triggers on multiple slides, and this is the only slide it's giving me an issue on so far. I put the variable in a text box on the last layer so it is showing me that it is flipping from true to false at 56 seconds like I've told it to, but then when I click the next button it doesn't advance to the next slide. I've tried changing that trigger from next slide to the actual slide number and neither works.
Thanks for sending over your file, Becky! One of our Support Engineers will take a closer look and be in touch with you soon.
No worries - I'm just glad for help getting out of the quandary. :) One can only hit a brick wall so many ways.
