I've been trying to add a rather large video file to my Storyline 3 project with no success. The program crashes every time. I'm working on it from my desktop and the video I want to add is also on the desktop. The video is an MP4. Any ideas for troubleshooting?
A couple questions to help figure out what's going on here!
How big is "a large video file"?
What update of Storyline 3 are you using? The latest is Storyline 3, build 3.5.16548.0
Have you tried importing this file into any other, blank .story files?
Do any other videos cause a crash or just this file?
If you're able to share those details that'll help us point you in the right direction! Also, if you can upload the file here (using the Add Attachment button) or provide us a link to where we can download it I'm happy to test it out too.
The file is 161MB and I'm using the latest build of Storyline 3. I have tried inserting this and other large video files into blank project recently. Any large video file causes Storyline to crash.
Finally, due to the nature of my work, I am unable to provide this project as an attachment.
Thanks for letting us know that inserting the video into a blank file causes Storyline to crash. That's certainly something our team can help you troubleshoot!
I understand you'd rather not share your video files, but since it's the best way for us to demonstrate the problem and document a defect, we'd happily accept those files shared here privately if you change your mind.
Otherwise, do you have more success if you separate the large video file into smaller clips before importing?
Hi Amanda! That definitely shouldn't happen, and we can help you get around it!
Could you send us a copy of the original project file by clicking here? We'll take a closer look at those videos and hopefully nail down what's causing the issue.
I'm having the same issue with Storyline 360 version 3.47.23871.0
Every time I try to import in a video using the Insert - Video from file this happens to me. The app either slows down the entire machine and takes several minutes before the video comes into the slide or crashes all together. My video clips are 10 to 20 MBs in size. This should not be an issue. As a matter fact this is the first time this has happened.
Please advise as to how I can fix this issue. Thank you!
Does the issue happen regardless of which video you add (long or short, standard definition or high definition)?
I've attached a sample video file. For troubleshooting, please try saving it to either your Desktop or to your My Documents folder and then adding it to your course to see if the dragging behavior still occurs.

Hi
I am having a similar problem. I've cut up a MP4 video into smaller videos and added these and now the story file crashes on opening.
Any tips on how to solve or avoid this issue?
Many thanks
Amanda

Hi, Mehdi!
Thanks for writing in and sharing your files with our Engineers.
I see you and Gerald are still trying to isolate the cause of the slowness and crash, where he asked a few environment-specific questions.
I'll follow along, and we're here, too, if you have any follow-up questions!
I'm wondering if you have a solution for this? I am having a similar problem. Videos cause Storyline to drag horribly.
Hello VLS,
Sorry to hear that you ran into a similar issue. I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience:

Let me know how it goes!
