Storyline 3 Illustrated Character Problems
Jul 17, 2017
Hi everyone. I am having a problem in Storyline 3 with the illustrated characters "flashing" momentarily during state changes. I have slide triggers that advance to the next slide at the end of the timeline. Sometimes a graphic or text that appear in the exact same position on consecutive slides will appear to "flash". The "flashing" occurs when previewing the entire scene, which has about 150 slides. I sent in a support request in May, and the technician acknowledges the problem. Still, no solution and no updates. I called in today to escalate the case to a higher level.
Is anyone else having this problem? I've got a production deadline due in two weeks with 18 twenty minute courses, all of which have this problem.
They were created in Storyline 2, and upgraded to Storyline 3. I had no problems in Storyline 2. I was told it is a software bug.

Thanks for sharing an update Elaine. I see where you reached out to our team and that your issue has been escalated.
Hopefully if anyone in the community has any insight or experience to share with you in the meantime, they will pop in to share.
I am having this problem. At first I thought it was the result of importing from Storyline 2 to Storyline 3, but I've started a project from scratch, and the same problem occurs. The difference is that the characters seem fine in preview, but if you publish even one slide, the problem is apparent. The illustrated characters do not shift smoothly between states. They jump choppily or as you say, they flash.
I sent in a trouble ticket this winter, and a tech tried to solve the problem, but really I did not see any significant improvement. Since then, I've updated to the latest version of Storyline 3, and my department has provided me with a newer, faster computer, but I'm still having the same issue with Storyline 3. I guess I"ll have to keep producing projects in Storyline 2 until the problem with Storyline 3 is solved.
Are the poses saved in different states? And did you delete the "base" pose from each state? If yes, then this could be the problem. I've noticed this in other images that have state changes where I have removed the "base" or normal image from the other poses. What helps is to keep the normal image, but make it transparent so it doesn't show up. This fixes the flashing issue for me.
Hi, Thank you, Jerson. I have not deleted the normal or base pose from any states. The problem shows up in the HTML5 version. The Flash version is fine.
Hi Nordette,
Are you able to share a sample file with us so that we could take a look at what you're seeing? Even just a slide or two showing the issue would help! You can use the Add Attachment button to upload your course here or send it along to our Support Engineers here.
Hi. I uploaded a zip file named “Louisiana Board of Ethics” when I contacted you. Your website told me the upload was completed.
Ah, looks like you shared that with our support team. Thanks Nordette. You should be hearing from someone soon.
It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.
Has there been any movement on this? It seems like a critical issue as Flash becomes phased out of use. Soon it just won't be supported and we need to update our portfolio.
Really sorry this bug is affecting you as well, K. I don't have any updates on this bug just yet, but we've still got our eye on it. You're in the right place to stay up-to-date on this bug's progress. Thanks for checking in. 😊
I am also having this same issue with a photographic character. Are there any updates on this?
Hey Jeff,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Are you seeing the photographic character "flash" or "jump" between state changes?
If so, I'd like to get a few more details from you to get a better idea of what you're seeing:
