Storyline 3 Importing Master sides from Powerpoint

May 02, 2018

Hi there,

Apologies, I couldn't find a question that was relevant to me...
I have a power point file that I've been importing screens from, into SL3. I only want to be able to import slides one at a time so I can make sure they are correct. However I've found that if I import one slide, then another, then another... each time Storyline imports the Master Pages again... Currently I have 8 sets of the same master pages and it's starting to kill SL3 when I open files. I see options to import "Select All" and "None", I select none then choose one at a time on import... but I don't see options to prevent SL3 importing he master pages again too...

Is this normal?

Thanks in advance
D

Yes, every time you import any slide, it brings its complete master set. Works quite well, in fact. You can import a slide, delete it, and have its masters all set up.

Personally, I think you can import all slides, then go through them one at a time to make sure they are correct. Doesn't take longer to go through the slides, and saves a ton of overhead compared to importing one at a time. And you end up with only one set of Master slides.

Thanks, yeah it does work for all slides that's evident... but it negates the need for importing selected screens only in the importer in that case. Might as well not have that option at all in fact. Whatever the reasons you need to import single screens, I think SL3 should recognise the same file being imported and give an option to import/not import the masters again. Rather than finding out later when you have imported 25 master pages you didn't intend to. :)

Edit - By all slides, I mean all the slides you want. Once you have selected None, you can go back and click only the slides you want to import, and you only get 1 set of masters.

On the bright side, SL is full of nasty little lessons you have to learn, but fortunately, this one is one you only have to learn once. :)

Thanks Walt - I've discovered this :) I'm trying to improve process from Storyboard (using PP) to SL3 so this was an attempt at improving the flow of content into Storyline. I guess if all content in PP is complete and signed off before SL3 is used to put the interactions together and tweak the designs the above might be ok. :) Lessons learned ;)
