Storyline 3 NEXT button appearing when it should not

Jul 12, 2019

I am new to Storyline and have come across something odd with the NEXT button appearing when it is not selected in the settings.

I have a central slide that sends user to go to  another scene (8 in total) and then returns to central slide. Once user has visisted all 8 scenes then a QUIZ button appears and the learner goes to the final scene. The NEXT button does not exist as not selected on the settings.

However, the Next button appears after the user triggers the JUMP TO SCENE action and it transitions off with the central side before displaying the new scene.

Has anyone else had this and how do I prevent the NEXT button (which should not exist) from appearing?

Your help plus suggested solutions would be very much appreciated.

Hi Karen

unfortunately that happens whether you use a slide transition or not. Some users reported this trigger working:

Change state of Next button to hidden when timeline reaches 0 seconds - but I find it still flashes slightly.

I ended up using the disabled state instead of hidden state to avoid the flashing.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

You also have the option to use a Restricted Menu - see this KB article that may help you.

Thank you for the suggestions and article - The Next button is not selected in the Slide settings, so cannot create a trigger for it - this is what is so puzzling. Are you saying that NEXT will always appear irrespective of settings?

I have tried Restricing & Locking the Menu and Lock NEXT/PREV in Player settings - now the NEXT button still flashes up but is greyed out. Can I remove it entirely?

It only appears during the transition.
