Storyline 3 not working with new Chrome update

Feb 08, 2018

Hello,

Hoping someone can give me some reassurance with this issue I encountered with the new update for Chrome - Version 64.0.3282.140 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Before this update, Chrome was the only browser that displayed my SL file properly. IE and the Launch_Story.app Application (Which runs off IE) both caused glitches in my graphics and the audio never synced up with the animations on the timeline. We decided we would direct all our clients to simply open the story.html files and always open with Chrome.

This has been running smoothly for the past 5 or 6 months. I noticed yesterday however with the new update to Chrome 64.0.3282.140 my course will not open. It just stays on the loading page continuously loading.

I was 2 days away from publishing and delivering Five 150 MB courses to my clients and now I'm kind of in a pretty bad situation.

Again, the courses still load and open in IE, they just don't run the way they're supposed to. My project is animation and audio heavy so when the audio doesn't sync properly it's very detrimental to the learner. So this isn't really an option.

See attachment for screen shot of loading screen stuck.

Anybody with any info please help. Thanks,

Dave

Hi there, Hitendra.

I did a quick test, and I saw that the Flash output was showing a gray player skin where it should have been transparent.  You can compare my outputs here:

Is that what you were seeing as well?  The Player Preview, which uses Flash, was inaccurate, but the slide Preview (HTML5) was right.

The one thing that bothered me about your screenshots, however, was the Player features seemed to be adjusted as well.  Is your custom player saved?  If so, what happens when you apply it?

Hi Hitendra,

Thanks for sharing that info. It does seem that your setup matches a similar report we have with our team where a Custom Player with white transparent background shows a grey border and does not play automatically when viewed. To confirm, can you share a copy of your .story file with the player so that we can take a look? We'll also be able to share that as an example with our team as they look into this!

Massive impact this Chrome 66 issue. Lost audio on modules. Had to republish all modules to LMS. Audio is now working. FYI if you have audio on the first slide, when launching a course a play icon will first be displayed for user to click on before module & audio starts. On gaming notebook over time play icon disappeared, as per google the system will pick up this repetition and then remove it. Staff use Chromebooks and Chrome boxes, will see if icon disappears and auto plays automatically over time on these devices also. As mentioned though had to republish all courses just to get the audio back. Google say they are working on a fix to avoid re publishing all content, don’t know when this will happen. Thanks Google for creating an absolute pain for us all & significantly time consuming for us and bad for the end user experience. Chrome is the less bugged browser for online courses though am not pleased about this update & the impact it’s had. 66 and the coming 70...fun times not!
