Storyline 3 Powerpoint Import is creating empty slides

May 05, 2020

When I import a powerpoint, the slide preview/selection shows all the slides in their wholeness. However, after the import process is complete, the slides are created with names but they are empty, save for a single, off-center, empty text box (even if a slide has multiple text objects / images).  If there is a slide background, that gets imported into the master slide.

I have tried creating a very simple powerpoint with 2 slides that have titles and content and it doesn't change anything.

I have tried matching slide dimensions (16:9 was what I was using) and it didn't change anything.

I tried importing to a new scene and importing to current scene and that didn't change anything.

I am using Storyline 3, trial version, 3.9.21069.0

Hi Robert,

Thank you for reaching out!

That is strange. The PowerPoint slides shouldn't be appearing blank when imported. I tried to recreate the issue you are describing using the same version of Storyline 3. However, I didn't see any blank slides after the import was complete. A couple of questions for you on this:

If you can share a screen recording of the issue, that would help out greatly!

Please keep us updated and let us know if you have any questions!

Hi Kimberly,

Thanks for reaching out, and I appreciate the screenshot! We haven't solved this mystery yet, but we won't give up there!

What version of PowerPoint and Storyline 360 are you running?

Also, would you be willing to share the PowerPoint file? You can upload it privately through this link. I'll try the import on my end and let you know what happens!

Hi Cortnee,

Thanks for reaching out! In Kimberly's case, we were unable to replicate the issue on our end and all the slides imported correctly for us.

  • Is your PowerPoint file saved locally when you import it, or is it on a network drive?

Feel free to share your PowerPoint file with us to see if we can help troubleshoot the issue!

The issue is not with my file, is has to do with some block in our set up. I just don't know what it is and neither does my IT team. I can get it to work off the network.

Hi Marissa,

We're happy to troubleshoot! A few questions to begin:

  • Are both the Storyline file and presentation saved to a local hard drive?
  • Which version of PowerPoint are you using?
  • Is this happening in multiple project files or a certain one?

P.S. You can use this link to share the PowerPoint file privately with our Support team for fast help!
