Storyline 3: Problem with zooms...

May 23, 2017

We have noted a problem in Storyline 3 where the slide has a zoom in it.  If the user uses the scrub bar to fast forward, then the slide does not zoom out at the end and they are stuck on the slide.  We use custom next buttons that appear at the end of the timeline, but as the slide remains on zoom, the user cannot see or click on them.

Yes, the easy answer is to delete the zoom or use the standard player controls, but it will mess up our design a bit.

Anyone else have the problem?

Hi Leslie,

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention. I'm seeing the same behavior you're describing in Storyline 3 in HITML5, but it looks like it's working as expected in Flash. I'm going to take this to my team to determine next steps, and I'll also tag this thread to be updated as soon as we get more information.

I'm so sorry this is plaguing you, and I really appreciate that you reached out to us about it!

Hi again Leslie! I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 3 for Storyline 3! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where a slide with a Zoom Region gets stuck in the zoomed state when reviewing using the seekbar.

Here’s where you can download and install the latest version of Storyline 3. Let me know how you make out!

I have a similar problem. I upgraded from Storyline 2 to 3 about 6 months ago. I noticed that when I import Storyline 2 sources files into Storyline 3. All of the zoom features on the slides run slowly. {All of the zoom components were set to default (medium) for the transition speed.} It is so bad that everything runs out of synch due to the slowness. Since a majority of my projects are connected to product implementation training, I use this feature quite a bit. This issue is a big problem for me when I need to update Storyline 2 projects.  BTW This is even slower when played through the mobile responsive player. Is this a problem associated with importing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there, Ladd.  I'm sorry you've got elements out of sync.  I know that the idea of reworking your files is not something you want to deal with.

I did a quick test with upgrading a Storyline 2 project with a zoom region to Storyline 3.  The duration and transition speed stayed the same for me during the upgrade process.  My project was pretty lightweight, though, so maybe it isn't matching your setup exactly.

Would you be able to work with our support team to see if we can identify where the lag is coming into play?  You can start by sharing an example set - your new Storyline 3 file, and the original Storyline 2 back-up version so we can compare.
