Storyline 3 trigger issue with Visited state

Aug 25, 2020

I have a course with three scenes, each of which should be completed. I'm having trouble creating triggers on the "home" slide for an object to change to its visited state once the learner is redirected back after completing a scene. How do I do that? I feel like it's something to do with variable triggers but I can't find the tutorials on them for Storyline 3.

Hi Angela, if you just set the 'home' slide to resume saved state under slide properties, you won't need to update the state of the buttons to visited, this is taken care of automatically. However, if you want to show that a scene has been completed, I would recommend creating a new State in your buttons called Completed, and have the triggers set that state.

Visited is an automatic state and doesn't need triggers.

It sounds like you are describing the Mixed Navigation mode. It visits different slides, instead of different scenes, but the principles are the same, and should get you started.

Using this method would fall under Sam's "show that a scene has been completed", and seems to be state of the art for custom navigation. However, it does require that you set the main menu slide to "reset to initial state on Revisit" to function correctly.

Any questions, ask.
